The symptoms listed below may also be associated with other health problems. Therefore, it makes sense to test for STIs on a regular basis. In the table you will find typical symptoms of the four STIs treated by our STI Basic:
1. Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis)
DK types are responsible for a chlamydial infection of the urinary and genital tract. This manifests, for example, as inflammation of the cervix (cervicitis) or inflammation of the ureter (urethritis) with a burning sensation during urination or discharge. Symptoms in men include pain during urination and abnormal discharge from the penis. If the infection is left untreated, bacteria can back up and lead to inflammation of the prostate or female internal reproductive organs, which can cause infertility. It can also lead to conjunctivitis, so-called pool conjunctivitis, as it can be transmitted through water. In women, the infection usually occurs without symptoms, so it can easily be transmitted to men, who then develop symptoms. An infection is especially dangerous during pregnancy, as the fetus can be harmed. Type L1-L3 infection leads to sexually transmitted inguinal lymphogranuloma, which manifests as enlarged lymph nodes in the groin. This form of chlamydia is most prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions.
2. Gonorrhoea
2-7 days after infection, men experience urethritis in the acute phase with itching, purulent discharge, painful urination and frequent need to urinate. Some men may not notice any symptoms for up to a month. If the infection is not treated, it can lead to inflammation of the prostate in the chronic phase. Women may be infected without symptoms, so the disease remains undetected and untreated for a long time. Otherwise, a variety of local inflammatory reactions are possible in the area of the bladder or female reproductive organs such as the ovaries with the risk of infertility. An infection is especially dangerous during pregnancy, as the unborn child can be harmed.
3. Trichomonas (Trichomonas vaginalis)
Most people infected with Trichomonas vaginalis have no symptoms, and the infection can remain undetected for years. Trichomoniasis affects both women and men. Symptoms are more common in women. Symptoms can occur 5 to 28 days after infection. Symptoms include pain, burning or itching in the penis, urethra (urethritis) or vagina (vaginitis). A foul-smelling, thin vaginal discharge is also possible. Symptoms for both sexes may increase during intercourse and urination.4. Genital mycoplasma
The infection causes inflammation of the urethra (urethritis) in both men and women, which is accompanied by mucopurulent discharge from the urinary tract and painful urination. In women, it can also trigger inflammation of the cervix (cervicitis) and internal genitalia, which are associated with infertility as a long-term consequence.
After your sample has been analyzed in the specialized medical laboratory, you will receive your individual results in digital format via the DoctorBox app. The results are clearly presented and the additional information is worded in a way that is understandable even to “laymen.” Additional information about each MST is available. You will also receive a report in PDF format, which you can also download.
The results will be available in English only.

The STI Base test is ideal for general screening and low-risk individuals. This test checks for four common sexually transmitted infections: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea (gonorrhea), Trichomonas, and Mycoplasma genitalium.
Here are the reasons why this test is useful: Early diagnosis: infections can often occur without symptoms. Safety and trust: Regular testing strengthens trust between partners. Prevention: Detect and treat infections early to prevent their spread. Health awareness: Proactively monitor your health.
Results should arrive within about 3 working days after sending the sample. Please pay attention to notifications in the DoctorBox app. Often results are assessed more quickly.
Please note that this is an estimate and may vary, especially during vacation periods or other unexpected delays. If you feel that your sample shipment will be significantly delayed, please contact our customer service department.
DoctorBox home tests should not be used:
- If you are not yet of legal age (18 years or older)
- If you have trouble looking at or drawing blood. In such a case, perform the test in the presence of another adult person or have the test performed by a health care professional.
You should use DoctorBox home tests only after consulting your doctor if:
- You suffer from a bleeding tendency or clotting disorder or are taking anticoagulant medications.
Home tests are still completely safe as long as all material is used only for its intended purpose.
Yes, you can also send the sample over the weekend. The IST Base test is designed so that the sample can be packed and shipped safely, regardless of the day of the week.
Samples are stable for up to 7 days. If possible, avoid putting samples in the mailbox on particularly hot days. Ideally, choose another day for collection or take the sample to a post office. However, results are sent only during the week.
.Our urine collection kits contain a preservative that ensures sample stability. These special kits are designed to keep urine samples stable for longer periods of time so that sample analysis can be performed reliably in the laboratory. However, it is recommended to send the sample as soon as possible to ensure the best quality and accuracy of the test results. Dried blood spot samples can remain stable for significant periods.
They are also stable for several days, making them ideal for mailing. In summer, make sure the sample is not exposed to the sun for too long. Pay attention to the emptying times of mailboxes or take the sample ready for mailing to a post office. During the cold season, there is no problem sending the sample; the cold weather aids the preservation process. For more detailed information on sample stability times, please contact DoctorBox customer service.
